The Planning Process for Quality Dock Installation
Each dock installation is unique. Quality construction services begin by carefully listening to the client’s needs then evaluating the location of the dock. Together, this information allows for the design of a dock that functions as desired and looks great. Here are some features to keep in mind:
- Quality dock construction is largely about what you don’t see, mainly environmental factors and what’s happening underwater.
- The dock foundation and marine construction make a quality finished product.
- Long-lasting results depend on the right and strongest materials.
- The dock is designed to fit its location and purpose.
- Safety is paramount as is avoiding liability and costly repairs.
Types of Dock Construction
Waterfront designs require consideration of where the dock will be located and how it will be used. There are various residential and commercial dock structures that can be considered for development including:
- Floating dock: A floating platform made of airtight drums is anchored and a wooden platform is built on top. The structure floats on water and rises and falls with water levels, but is stable enough to serve as a boat dock, particularly for smaller vessels.
- Piling dock: Made of heavy wooden beams driven deep into the waterbed with the frame attached to the pilings. Stable, strong, and ideal for locations near rivers and streams where water flows quickly and the level is consistent.
- Crib dock: A frame weighted with large rocks is topped with decking to connect to the shoreline. A very strong structure that extends the shoreline into the water, a crib dock can be environmentally problematic.
- Suspension dock: Made of a metal frame intended to hang over the water and ideal for areas with a weak ecosystem because there is little to no effects on plants and animals. Aesthetically pleasing and often able to move up and down depending on water level.
Any dock can be customized to suit lifestyle and purpose, from launching small watercraft to accessorizing with stairs, platforms, lifts, lights, boarding steps, ladders and more. Be clear with your marine construction specialist about your intentions for your dock and how you intend to use the structure so you can get the exact dock construction you need.
